What a crazy time, friends. What a crazy, surreal, unimaginable time.
I find myself sick-to-my-stomach-disappointed about a scheduled trip to Israel in May. I have been looking forward to this trip for over a year, and quite a bit of money is invested in it.
I am sad that I can’t responsibly host any book events when my book comes out.
I am nervous that my beloved camps won’t be able to run this summer. Obviously it’s too soon to make those calls. But I’m nervous.
Then I hear the stories of those who have lost loved ones to this disease, or those who are stranded overseas. I hear about people who have weddings planned and either have to postpone or get married without their loved ones there. Just today a friend’s father passed away. Will anyone be able to gather for this amazing man’s funeral?
I have been emotional and humbled as I reflect on just how lucky and privileged I am. I have a salaried position, and I am able to do most of my work from home. I have a home with a home office, plenty of food to get me through at least the next several weeks, and a garden I can tend without coming into contact with others. I am an introvert who loves isolation, and I don’t anticipate much of a mental struggle. I have no kids, so I don’t have to worry about child care or home schooling.
I am incredibly lucky, and my sacrifices and disappointments are so small in the grand picture. I’m trying to remember that truth every time my stomach twists at the thought of my trip.
And with that, let’s talk about some happier things!!
